Calculations explained 🔢
Hitting Value (HV) = Bill James' Runs Created Formula, translated into a per AB value, extrapolated over a 20 game season while assuming league average ABs (5.5) per game
Pitching Value (PV) = A summative value using Fielding Independent Pitching stats (IP, HR, BB, IBB, K), translated into a per IP value, extrapolated over a 20 game season while assuming league average IP (3.3) per team game played
Total Value (TV) = Hitting Value + Pitching Value
Cap Hit = Each player's HV and PV were normalized to provide a 1.25-50 rating for every player in the league. The best pitcher or hitter receives a 50, the lowest rated player receives a 2.5 and everyone else falls somewhere in between. A player's 1.25-50 hitting and pitching rating are then combined to come up with their cap hit. The maximum is 100 (a player who is the top rated hitter AND pitcher), and the minimum is a 2.5. All players lower than 10 were adjusted to make their value equal 2.5.
